let’s be honest, our nail tend to be the most forgot when it comes to a proper care, we spend so much on skin care but we forget that nails gives an idea of who and how we are.

The shape, the color and the length of the nail is a mirror of our personality, and because( let’s be honest), we all like to stand out, these babies need to be at their best.

First is protection and that comes with gloves, these ones are a must in cold weather, doing the dishes or working especially if you lift weight.

Second is care that comes in three easy steps:

Exfoliation: just like the rest of your body, your hands need to be exfoliated even if they are the most washed part of your body, I use home remedies when it  comes to exfoliation, I mix brown sugar with some coconut oil and oatmeal, and apply it on my palms and the back of my hands, massage it for 3 minutes and rinse it with lukewarm water.

Moisturization : this step is a must to keep the elasticity of your hands, I like to use the L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream, everyone swears by it.

A same natural alternative to this products is shea butter, you can apply it around the year and it’s available everywhere.

Sun block : yes you read that right! As much as sun damages your skin it damages your hands, so the next time you apply sun block don’t forget to put some on your hands.

Third is manicure, after cutting your nails to the shape that you prefer, start filing them in 1 direction only lightly buff them, don’t go crazy with this step because it will damage your nail bed, remove any dead skin with an orange stick after soaking your fingers in warm water, but not the cuticle, the most common mistake is removing the cuticle, when you do so, you open a door for germs and infections, cuticles should never be removed nor pushed.

And finally apply nail oil or sesame oil, it keeps them shiny and healthy.

This step is repeated once a week for best looking nails.

Now, if you already followed these tips but your nails or hands are in the same bad condition, that is a sign for something wrong going in your body, some diseases like anemia, nail clubbing, or even diabetes.

Make sure you have a balanced diet, and a regular check up because good hands & nails means good health.
